March and March Activist Wandile Nsibande Re-Arrested Minutes After Gaining Bail
In a dramatic turn of events at the Durban Magistrate’s Court, March and March movement activist Wandile Nsibande has been re-arrested just minutes after being granted bail.
The movement’s leader, Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, confirmed the development, stating that Nsibande was taken back into custody by law enforcement officers for an alleged parole violation.
Earlier today, Magistrate Sicelo Zuma granted Nsibande R1,000 bail.
The State had strongly opposed his release, citing public safety concerns, his prior criminal record, and potential breaches of his active parole conditions.
Nsibande faces serious charges including public violence, incitement to commit public violence, obstruction of public roads, and public intimidation.
These charges stem from an anti-immigration protest orchestrated by the March and March movement in the Durban Central Business District (CBD), which escalated into looting and clashes with law enforcement.
In his bail ruling, Magistrate Zuma noted that the court could not definitively determine at this stage whether Nsibande had officially violated his parole conditions, ultimately allowing his release on bond.
The freedom was short-lived. Moments after the ruling was handed down and administrative processing was underway, officials moved in to apprehend Nsibande once again.
According to Ngobese-Zuma, the re-arrest is directly tied to administrative interventions regarding his parole status, which the state has argued was compromised by his participation in the Durban unrest.
Nsibande is currently scheduled to appear back in court on 26 November 2026, alongside his co-accused, Sphelele “Magolide” Shinga and Malizo Dzanibe, pending further police investigations.
It remains unclear how this secondary detention will impact his upcoming court schedule or if his legal representative, Xolani Zuma, will launch an immediate challenge to the parole arrest.
