NORTHERN CAPE – The Philipstown Magistrates Court imposed a hefty jail sentence to Daniel Williams (46) for raping a 76-year-old granny in Petrusville. This heinous act by the accused resulted in a 20 year prison sentence. On 03 December 2023, the accused was visiting by the granny and her husband in Petrusville. The husband went to the shop, leaving the victim alone with the accused who then forcefully raped her and fled the scene. The husband returned and found his wife crying and immediately reported the incident to the police. The accused was arrested two days later and police successfully opposed bail. Daniel Williams was sentenced in the Phillipstown Regional Court on 07 March 2025 to 20 years for rape and his name was entered into National Register for Sexual Offenders. The Provincial Commissioner for the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola lauds Detective Sergeant Willy Isaacs from the De Aar Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit for his meticulous investigation which led to the incarceration of the perpetrator. All efforts will be intensified by SAPS investigators to ensure that justice is served. Ends
