RAMATHUBA LEADS OPERATION RETSEPENG IN MUSINA

POLOKWANE – Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba has called for renewed commitment and accountability among law enforcement and government agencies as she led Operation Retsepeng in Musina on Friday.

Ramathuba was joined by the MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Ms N Kekana, and Limpopo SAPS Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers during the multidisciplinary law enforcement operation.

The operation brings together several stakeholders, including the Border Management Authority (BMA), South African National Defence Force (SANDF), Departments of Home Affairs, Trade and Labour, the Musina Local Municipality and other law enforcement agencies.

Operation Retsepeng is aimed at strengthening law enforcement in the border town, enforcing immigration laws and ensuring compliance with various pieces of legislation.

Consignment of baggage concealed in refused bags were discovered during the operation in Nancefield, Musina Local Municipality.

Addressing officials during the parade, Ramathuba stressed that every stakeholder has a critical role to play in ensuring the success of the operation.

She warned that failure by one component of the system could undermine the work of the entire law enforcement and governance chain.

The Premier urged officials to take ownership of their responsibilities and to execute their duties diligently, ethically and without compromise.

She said visible and effective law enforcement was essential to restoring public confidence and rebuilding trust between communities and government.

The operation comes as Musina, a key border town linking South Africa and Zimbabwe, continues to face complex law enforcement and border management challenges.

Authorities are expected to conduct enforcement activities targeting non-compliance with immigration and other applicable laws as part of the operation.

Ramathuba said the various agencies must work together to ensure that government’s presence is felt through visible, accountable and effective service delivery.

The operation also underscores the importance of cooperation between provincial and national government structures, law enforcement agencies and the municipality in addressing challenges affecting communities in the border region.
