R45m Mogalakwena Tender Probe: Suspect Granted R100 000 Bail
LIMPOPO: A 37-year-old suspect linked to an alleged R45 million fraud, corruption and money-laundering investigation involving the Mogalakwena Local Municipality has been granted R100 000 bail by the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court.
The suspect appeared in court on Thursday, 17 September 2026, following his arrest by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team on Wednesday in Gauteng province.
The matter was postponed to 3 November 2026 for further investigation.
The investigation centres on a fleet-management tender advertised and awarded by Mogalakwena Local Municipality in 2022.
According to the Hawks, preliminary findings indicate that the procurement process was allegedly not conducted in accordance with prescribed procedures.
Investigators are now following the financial trail and examining the possible involvement of individuals and private entities allegedly linked to the tender.
The Hawks said a legal entity allegedly linked to the arrested suspect has also been identified as part of the investigation.
The law enforcement agency estimates that the municipality may have suffered potential financial prejudice of approximately R45 million.
The Hawks have stressed that the investigation remains ongoing and that the arrest is only part of a wider probe.
More arrests are expected as investigators pursue outstanding leads and examine the financial transactions and relationships surrounding the tender.
Members of the public with information that could assist the investigation have been urged to come forward. The Hawks said such information would be treated confidentially, subject to the applicable legal framework.
Limpopo Hawks Provincial Head Major General (Adv.) Gopz Govender said investigators would continue following the evidence and financial trail.
