Dithejane reveals the thinking behind his dream Bafana debut goal
Chicago FC star Puso Dithejane enjoyed a dream start to his Bafana Bafana career, scoring on debut to help South Africa beat Egypt 1-0 in an international friendly on Sunday night.
But it was the manner of the goal that caught the eye.
After receiving a superb pass from fellow debutant Shandre Campbell, Dithejane kept his composure in a one-on-one situation before showing great skill to beat the goalkeeper and a defender and slot the ball into the net.
Speaking after the match, Dithejane revealed exactly what was going through his mind during the attack.
“For me, I saw it was one-v-one and I did not want to rush. I thought I should keep the ball. I went there, took on the player, saw the opening and scored the goal,” he said.
Dithejane explained how he managed to get past both the goalkeeper who had come out to try and stop him, and the defender.
“I saw the goalkeeper come, I touched the ball a little and it went through his legs. Then I saw the defender and took him on and went on to score.”
The youngster believes the victory is another sign of the potential within the Bafana squad.
“For us, it is to keep going. We have a very good group, a very talented group and a very hard-working group. We want to achieve what we want, so we are going to keep working hard.”
Dithejane and a few other players will have given coach Pitso Mosimane a good headache ahead of the next Fifa window in November.
