AKA and Tibz murder trial set to begin in Durban
The long-awaited trial of seven men accused of murdering rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane is expected to begin in the Durban High Court today, Monday, more than three years after they were shot dead outside a restaurant on Florida Road.
Forbes and Motsoane were killed on 10 February 2023 outside Wish restaurant. The shooting was captured on CCTV and widely circulated online, sparking a major police investigation. Arrests were announced about a year later, while brothers Siyabonga Gezani Ndimande and Malusi Dave Ndimande were extradited from Eswatini in late 2025 following lengthy legal proceedings.
The seven accused, Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande, Lindokuhle Thabani Mkhwanazi, Lindani Zenzele Ndimande, Siyanda Eddie Myeza, Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni and Lindokuhle Lindo Ndimande face charges including conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of murder, attempted murder, and firearm- and ammunition-related offences.
The National Prosecuting Authority says all seven remain in custody. Investigators have indicated that Forbes was the intended target and Motsoane was caught in the attack.
Pre-trial proceedings were finalised in August, with the trial scheduled from 5 October to 6 November. Further dates have been reserved from 12 April to 14 May 2027.
