Petrol prices drop by 1c as diesel gets over R1 cut
Motorists will see a slight decrease in petrol prices and a bigger drop in diesel prices from midnight on Tuesday, 3 November, as the November fuel price adjustments take effect on Wednesday.
Both grades of petrol will decrease by 1 cent per litre, while diesel prices will drop by R1.10 per litre for 0.05% sulphur and R1.20 per litre for 0.005% sulphur.
The adjustments come as Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana’s temporary fuel levy cuts take effect from 4 November to 1 December 2026. The general fuel levy has been reduced by R1.50 per litre for petrol and R3 per litre for diesel during this period.
The relief will continue at reduced rates until 5 January 2027, with the levy cut decreasing to R1 per litre for petrol and R1.50 per litre for diesel.
Godongwana announced the R10 billion intervention during his Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement, saying the money would be funded by returning a previous R10 billion transfer to the Central Energy Fund to the National Revenue Fund.
According to the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, higher international oil prices and a weaker rand placed upward pressure on fuel prices during the review period. An increase in the slate levy also offset some of the relief on petrol.
Meanwhile, illuminating paraffin will increase by R2.75 per litre, while liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) will rise by R1.83 per kilogram.
