Orlando Pirates star Tsepang Moremi shines in comeback win over Cádiz as team spirit fuels pre season preparations
Orlando Pirates continue to gather momentum ahead of the new Betway Premiership campaign after producing a spirited comeback victory over Spanish side Cádiz CF, with winger Tsepang Moremi emerging as the standout performer in an encouraging display of resilience, unity and belief.
The Buccaneers fought back from a goal down to claim a 2-1 win over the Spanish Segunda Division outfit on Saturday evening, offering another promising glimpse of the squad’s growing confidence during their demanding pre season training camp in Spain.
Moremi proved decisive when it mattered most. The winger struck the equaliser before creating the winning goal for Daniel Msendami, capping a performance that reflected both his individual quality and the collective determination Orlando Pirates are hoping will define their season.
The victory follows Pirates’ 1-1 draw against Córdoba CF earlier in the week, extending an unbeaten start to their Spanish preparations as the Soweto giants continue fine tuning their squad before domestic football returns.
Speaking after the match, Moremi credited the result to the team’s togetherness rather than individual brilliance.
“I am happy with today’s result because we worked for it as a team,” he said.
“It is not easy here because it is very sunny, but I am happy we worked hard for the result. The mood in camp is great and everyone is happy.”
His comments offered an insight into the atmosphere inside the Pirates camp, where unity has become one of the defining themes of the club’s pre season preparations.
Moremi said the players have embraced a strong team first mentality, with everyone contributing through difficult conditions.
“I like how the guys worked together and how we helped each other. It was not easy out there.”
While pleased with his own contribution, the winger made it clear that personal success remains secondary to the club’s broader ambitions. Pirates are determined to build on last season’s progress rather than simply repeat it.
“For myself, I am happy because it is something we were doing from last season. The plan is to build on what happened last season and become even better this season.”
Spain’s intense summer heat has added another layer of difficulty to the training camp, but Moremi believes the demanding conditions will ultimately strengthen the squad before the league campaign begins.
“The conditions are very hot, but there is nothing we can do except work hard. Everyone feels the heat, but it is preparing us for difficult conditions so that when the league starts, we will be ready.”
For Orlando Pirates, the result against Cádiz was about more than another pre season victory. It highlighted a squad developing confidence, building chemistry and showing the character required to recover from adversity.
With the countdown to the Betway Premiership season continuing, performances like this will give supporters plenty of reason to believe the Buccaneers are laying the foundations for another strong campaign.
