Media Statement POLOKWANE – Operation Vala Umgodi, intelligence-driven joint operation between Sunday, 29 December and early hours of Monday, 30 December 2024, delivered significant results in the fight against crime in Limpopo. On Sunday, 29 December 2024, at approximately 11:30 AM, the team arrived in Musina Town and proceeded to Musina City Centre and China City to carry out Vehicle Check Point (VCP) duties. During the operation in the City Centre, officers successfully arrested a foreign national and confiscated counterfeit goods with an estimated value of R2 million. The 34-year-old suspect was issued a summons and fined R5000, which was paid at Musina SAPS. The counterfeit goods were seized and registered in the SAP 13. The suspect is expected to appear before the Magistrate’s Court soon. Additionally, nine undocumented foreign nationals were arrested. In a separate operation, the Vala Umgodi Task Team in Waterberg District worked alongside the Tactical Joint Operational Centre (TAC JOC) Commanders to target illegal mining activities in the Matebeleng old gold mine mountain area. This joint operation led to the confiscation of mining equipment valued at R100 000. The suspects, upon noticing the presence of law enforcement officers, fled the scene, abandoning the equipment. The operation is part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activity in Limpopo, particularly in areas notorious for illegal mining and counterfeit goods distribution.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has praised the Operation Vala Umgodi Task Team members for their commitment in fighting crime and their role in creating a safer festive season.
