Mohau Nkota has lifted the lid on his difficult decision to leave Orlando Pirates for a move to Saudi Arabia, admitting the transition was both emotional and career-driven.
The young star secured a switch to the Saudi Pro League team Al Ettifaq in July, making a surprise move.
Speaking to Saudi League media team this week, Nkota made it clear that his move was inspired by ambition and a desire to test himself abroad.
“Not all of us want to stay in Africa and play in Africa,” he said.
“Most of us want to play overseas. For most of us, that’s our wish — to move at an early age and experience different leagues in other countries.”
Nkota also revealed how Pirates boss Irvin Khoza gave him the opportunity to make the decision on he move.
“I got a call from the Orlando Pirates chairman saying it’s up to me whether I want to go or not. I was happy about moving here,” he explained.
Despite his excitement, the attacker admitted that saying goodbye to the club that nurtured his talent was far from easy.
“It was emotional leaving the club where I grew up. My last week wasn’t easy, going in and saying goodbye to the guys,” he said.
Nkota also took thanked the Ghost for their support during his rise at the club.
“To the Orlando Pirates fans, thank you. I wanted to leave to play football and go as far as I can.”
His move marks a bold new chapter as he looks to build his career on the international stage.
