KOMANI – Information shared to Police led to the arrest of a suspected drug trafficker with mandrax tablets worth R9 million in Komani on Saturday, 08 February 2025. In a Crime Intelligence driven operation with members attached to the K9 Unit and Red Guard Security, they followed information of vehicle (Isuzu truck) that was allegedly driving from Gauteng Province transporting drugs to East London. The team spotted the vehicle at Cathcart Road in Komani and managed to stop it. On investigation, they searched and found one hundred and eleven bags (111) containing 1000 mandrax tablets each to the street value of R9 million. Police confiscated the drugs as well as his vehicle as it was used in committing crime. The 55 year old male was arrested and charged for possession and dealing in drugs. He is due to appear before Komani Magistrate Court on Monday, 10 February 2025.
The Chris Hani District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph applauded the members for their swift response in acting on information received and their vigilance in spotting the vehicle in the area. He commended the community members for sharing valuable information that led to the arrest and recovery of drugs that were going to be sold in the streets of our Province.
