Fadiel Adams, leader of the National Coloured Congress and Member of Parliament, appeared before the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on 7 May 2026 following his arrest in Cape Town on Tuesday.
Adams is facing charges of defeating the ends of justice in connection with the 2017 murder case of former Sindiso Magaqa.
The State has brought a total of five charges against Adams, including two counts of defeating the ends of justice and three counts of fraud.
According to the prosecution, Adams allegedly misrepresented his status by claiming he was on “official Parliamentary Duty” in order to gain unauthorised access to sensitive environments.
The State alleges that Adams visited a correctional facility to meet with Bonginkosi Dlamini, widely known as “Greatman”, without the presence of Dlamini’s legal representative.
Prosecutors further allege that Adams recorded a video while the Dlamini matter was still before the courts, an action viewed as interference with judicial proceedings.
The charges also relate to Adams’ interactions with another accused individual, Sbusiso, in a matter linked to Magaqa’s assassination.
The State claims Adams conducted an unauthorised interview with the accused, allegedly leading to the charges of defeating the ends of justice.
Prosecutors argue that Adams’ actions did not form part of his parliamentary oversight responsibilities and instead compromised the integrity of ongoing investigations.
Supporters gathered outside court during the proceedings, while legal analysts noted that the case could hinge on the distinction between parliamentary oversight and alleged interference in criminal matters.
The matter has been postponed to 13 May 2026 for a formal bail application.
