Mofokeng’s red-hot form sparks Premier League interest
Relebohile Mofokeng could be heading for another major career move after his explosive start to life in Europe attracted interest from some of the biggest clubs on the continent.
The former Orlando Pirates star has reportedly caught the attention of Premier League giants Chelsea and Brighton, while Spanish heavyweights Atletico Madrid and Italian side Napoli are also monitoring his progress.
Mofokeng only joined Belgian club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in July, but he has wasted little time making an impression.
His stock rose even further after he scored twice in Bafana Bafana’s 5-0 victory over Eritrea in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
At club level, the 22-year-old has also made an encouraging start, scoring four goals and providing an assist, including a goal on his UEFA Europa League debut against Viktoria Plzen.
Former Bafana striker Shaun Bartlett previously tipped Mofokeng for a move to one of Europe’s major leagues, saying he may not remain in Belgium for long.
Brighton could be particularly interesting given the club’s connection with Union Saint-Gilloise through owner Tony Bloom.
For now, Mofokeng remains focused on his development in Belgium, but if his current form continues, a Premier League move could become a very real possibility.
