MK Party Activist Max Makhanya Granted R7,000 Bail
MK Party activist and TikToker Nkululeko “Max” Makhanya, 38, has been granted R7,000 bail by the Durban Magistrate’s Court after being arrested over a video allegedly insulting KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and inciting violence.
Makhanya was arrested on Sunday, 1 November, at an MK Party election rally at Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu. He faces charges of crimen injuria and incitement to commit violence.
The state proposed R10,000 bail, arguing that Makhanya earns money as a content creator and lives in a luxury apartment. The defence disputed this, saying he is unemployed, has two children and supports a pregnant girlfriend.
The court granted him bail of R7,000, with a condition that he must not directly or indirectly incite members of the public to commit acts of violence.
The magistrate also cautioned Makhanya about the seriousness of the charges after observing him giggling in the dock.
The case was postponed to 20 January 2027.
