Werner Wessels – who resigned as the Creative Director of the Miss South Africa (Miss SA) organisation – has been inundated with well wishes from the countless women he has worked with, including past winners.
The pageant guru announced the shock decision to part ways with the organisation, which he joined in 2011.
During his tenure, Werner was credited for two Miss Universe wins, a Miss World and Miss Supranational victory, and several runner-up placements.
WERNER WESSELS: EX-MISS SA’S SHOW HIM LOVE
Reigning Miss SA Mia Le Roux was one of the first title-holders to pay tribute to Werner Wessels under a post about his resignation.
Werner travelled with Mia to Mexico in December and was her pillar of support amid her decision to withdraw from the competition.
She posted: “Being under your mentorship and guidance has been a true honour, and I cannot wait to see the rest of your exciting life unfold. You will forever have a place in my heart. Thank you for the endless love you have poured into empowering women. Love you always and forever!”
Other Miss SA alumni also sang Werner Wessels’s praises…
Here’s what a few had to say:
Shudu Musida: “Thank you so much for always being you and for the love you’ve shown us.”
Natasha Joubert: “What a journey it’s been, and now the beginning of a new, incredible journey! Thank you for being such a big part of this legacy, and forever will be! That you gave so much passion and love to the platform and every woman.”
Liesl Laurie: “Thank you for helping me change my life forever. What you did for me and my family will always be close to our hearts.”
Bryoni Govender: “You are phenomenal and have impacted my life in the best way possible. I will always be supporting you.”
Lalela Mswane: “We love you”
Rolene Strauss: “It has been 13 years, a Miss South Africa title, Miss World crown, and a whole lifetime since then… Still, you are here, empowering us to become the best versions of ourselves through ALL the phases of our lives.”
Tamaryn Green: “Thank you for always uplifting, motivating, and supporting me and so many other women.”
EMPOWERING WOMEN
In his resignation statement, Werner Wessels revealed that it was his childhood dream to work for the Miss SA organisation.
He shared: “This journey has been a dream come true, a journey filled with purpose, passion, and pride. I’m immensely proud of the work we have done and the impact I’ve made. I will forever be grateful to the Miss South Africa Organisation for entrusting me with the responsibility that comes with this role I created”.
Werner thanked Miss SA contestants, including past winners, who worked alongside him. He also vowed to continue to empower South African women.
He continued: “I have always said I want my career to be a love letter to women, a celebration of their courage, brilliance, and limitless potential. It is a tribute to South African women who, despite challenges, rise above and continue to inspire.
“My love for this beautiful nation and its women, who are brave enough to believe not only in the power of their own dreams but also in the promise and potential of South Africa, is at the heart of everything I do.
“While this marks the end of one chapter, it’s also the beginning of a new and exciting one. The best is yet to come, and I can’t wait to share what’s next. The letter continues to be written.”
