Mako wants Derby form and a better result as Chiefs brace for Siwelele battle

Paseka Mako was one of Kaizer Chiefs’ bright spots in the Soweto Derby defeat, and now he wants the same performance, but with a very different ending.

Chiefs travel to the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday, 8 November, for their Carling Knockout Cup quarterfinal against Siwelele (kick-off 6pm).

The 32-year-old left-back has been a useful contributor to the club’s start to the season, and he says there is more to come.

“I am getting to the physical level I want to be at,” Mako told kaizerchiefs.com. “Game by game I feel stronger.”

Amakhosi started the season with an eight-game unbeaten run, but too many of those games were draws. Mako insists the group is united and trying to change that.

“We are a unified group,” he added. “Everyone is doing their best, and we are all working tirelessly towards achieving the same goal.

“It has just been unfortunate that we haven’t got the results we feel our performances deserve, but if we keep up our efforts, they will come. Consistency is key, and we want good performances in every game.”

A win would raise hopes inside the club and among the fans that Chiefs can go all the way. Mako is keeping it simple.

“We aim to win this trophy, but we’re not getting ahead of ourselves, and all that is on our minds is to get through this quarterfinal,” he says.

“They are difficult opponents, and we are aware of some of their strengths, but our primary focus is always on our own strategy of how to impose ourselves on them and win the match. We need to concentrate the whole time on executing what the coaches have told us.”

After the Duba hat-trick against Galaxy, then a derby loss, Chiefs need a reaction in Polokwane if they are to salvage any silverware this season.
