Kwazulu-Natal community police board empowers women through ladies empowerment programme
The KwaZulu-Natal Community Police Board led a “Ladies Empowerment Programme” for the financial year 2026/2027 at the Onomo Hotel on Wednesday evening.
The session was themed “Behind Every Smile, There is a Story To Tell”, highlighting the scars and setbacks written in history books of social oppression of women leaders are days of the past.
In his welcoming remarks, the Provincial Board Chairperson, Mabutho Mtshali, reflected on the struggle heroines like Lilian Ngoyi and Princess Magogo, citing them as pioneers and torchbearers who demonstrated women’s power and resilience.
The Provincial Board Secretary, Siyanda Biyela, called for an investment in New Hope and women as instruments of moral regeneration and social cohesion, especially with the rise of GBV and gangsterism in our communities.
The Acting HOD for the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, known as Miss Makhanya, reiterated government’s commitment to strengthen collaborative efforts to effectively deal with the scourge of crime in the province. She also applauded the courage and bravery of the women at the forefront of community policing for being a beacon of hope for a safer society.
The Provincial Head of Proactive Policing in KwaZulu-Natal, Brigadier Sbongile Ngubane, emphasised the importance of being strong in leadership positions as women and being willing to adapt to environments.
