Kruger United invite Al Ahly striker Mohamed Sherif for 40-day trial ahead of Betway Premiership debut
Newly promoted Betway Premiership side Kruger United are wasting little time in signalling their ambitions, with the Mpumalanga club moving to assess an experienced Egyptian international as they prepare for the biggest season in their history.
Information obtained by MDNtv News reveals that Kruger United have invited Egyptian forward Ahmed Sherief Mohamed Eldesouki Elsheikh, widely known as Mohamed Sherif, to South Africa for a 40-day trial as the club intensifies preparations for its maiden campaign in the country’s top flight.
Documents seen by MDNtv News confirm that the club has already initiated the visa process by submitting the necessary paperwork to the South African Embassy in Egypt.
The correspondence requests the embassy’s assistance in facilitating Sherif’s travel documents and confirms that every logistical arrangement has been finalised before his arrival. According to the letter, Kruger United will take full responsibility for the player’s accommodation and welfare during his stay in South Africa.
The club states that Sherif has been invited for an assessment period of no longer than 40 days, during which he will be evaluated by the technical team ahead of the new Betway Premiership season.
Throughout the trial, the striker will be based at the club’s accommodation facilities in White River, near Mbombela in Mpumalanga.
The move represents one of Kruger United’s clearest statements of intent since securing promotion to the Betway Premiership. Rather than simply making up the numbers in their debut top-flight campaign, the club appears determined to build a squad capable of competing with South Africa’s established football heavyweights.
Should Sherif impress during his assessment, Kruger United could secure the services of a player with experience at one of Africa’s most successful clubs.
The 30-year-old striker has built a strong reputation during his time with Egyptian giants Al Ahly, where he remains under contract. Renowned for his intelligent movement, clinical finishing and composure in front of goal, Sherif would bring valuable experience and pedigree to a Kruger United side eager to make an immediate impact in the Betway Premiership.
While no deal has been finalised, the invitation marks an intriguing development in the club’s recruitment drive and underlines its willingness to explore international talent as it prepares for a landmark season.
