Kaze Braces for Emotional Kaizer Chiefs Return as Sekhukhune United Face Amakhosi
Cedric Kaze knows exactly what awaits him when he walks into Soccer City on Wednesday night.
The Sekhukhune United coach will come face to face with his former employers, Kaizer Chiefs, in what promises to be an emotional Betway Premiership encounter.
Kaze was part of the Chiefs technical team last season alongside Khaled Ben Youssouf. The pair stepped in following the departure of Nasreddine Nabi and helped guide Amakhosi to a third place finish in the league.
It was Chiefs’ best league finish in six seasons, offering a glimpse of progress during a turbulent period for the Soweto giants.
Despite that achievement, Kaze and Ben Youssouf eventually parted ways with the club.
Now, only months later, Kaze will return to face the team he helped rebuild.

He began his tenure with a Betway Premiership victory over Durban City before leading Babina Noko to a thrilling 4-3 MTN8 win against AmaZulu.

“It’s an emotional one coming on Wednesday, but we have to first recover well. I feel like Sunday’s game took a toll on the physicality of the players. But I’m pretty sure that on Wednesday we will be ready for the challenge,” Kaze said.
Kaze Wants Tactical Flexibility
Facing a former club adds another layer to the occasion, but Kaze knows the contest will ultimately be decided by what happens on the pitch.
The coach has already demonstrated tactical flexibility at Sekhukhune, including his use of inverted wide players.
With both teams familiar with each other’s strengths and weaknesses, Kaze believes adaptability could prove decisive.
“Because every club knows everything about the other, everyone comes to games with plans, having watched you a lot of times,” he said.
“Therefore, we need you to be able to be flexible to surprise other teams. We need a team that can do different things at different times during the game.”
That approach could be particularly important against Chiefs, a side Kaze knows from the inside.

The coach was particularly pleased with the response of his players during the dramatic victory over AmaZulu.
Sekhukhune conceded early, but refused to allow the setback to derail their performance.
Kaze praised the mentality and commitment shown by his squad as they fought their way through a match that produced seven goals.
“I have to commend my players. They had such a big attitude, such a big commitment in everything that they did. Even after conceding an early goal, we kept our minds very clear, we kept our intentions clear as well.”
For Kaze, the comeback was about more than securing a victory. It showed him that his players possess the resilience required for difficult moments.
“It showed that I have players that are ready to fight, and against AmaZulu they showed what they are capable of. And I’m very happy for them, for the club, for the fans.”

He returns to a stadium where he previously worked to help Chiefs secure their strongest league finish in years, this time with the responsibility of trying to beat them.
