Alleged Gangster in Court Over Murder of Two Anti-Gang Unit Officers
A 23-year-old alleged gangster is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, facing charges linked to the killing of two Gauteng SAPS Anti-Gang Unit members.
The suspect is facing two counts of murder and a charge of possession of unlicensed firearms following a multidisciplinary police operation in Germiston over the weekend.
Police said the suspect was traced to the KwaDukathole Informal Settlement, where investigators recovered two R5 rifles during the operation.
The arrest followed a coordinated effort involving the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s (DPCI) Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Gauteng Crime Intelligence Tactical and Special Operations, the Provincial Tracking Team, Tactical Response Team, Anti-Gang Unit and PRASA.
Suspect Linked to Deadly Attack
According to police, the suspect was identified as someone allegedly involved in the killing of two Anti-Gang Unit members, Constables Tlomatsana and Sibeko.
Two civilian women were also allegedly killed in the incident.
The suspect was already out on bail when he was arrested and has several pending cases, including two counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
His latest arrest now places him before the court as investigators continue to build their case.
Two R5 Rifles Recovered
The recovery of the two R5 rifles is expected to form part of the ongoing investigation as police work to establish the weapons’ connection to the alleged crimes.
The operation brought together several specialised police units and other law enforcement structures in an effort to track down the suspect and remove illegal firearms from the community.
Police have not disclosed whether the recovered firearms have been forensically linked to the killings.
Investigations are continuing, and authorities have warned that the case is far from over.
More Arrests Could Follow
Police said they are continuing to pursue other people who may have been involved in the killings.
Further arrests have not been ruled out as investigators work to establish the full extent of the alleged criminal network.
The case also places renewed attention on the dangers faced by police officers operating against organised gangs and heavily armed criminals.
SAPS and the DPCI said they remain committed to dismantling criminal networks, removing illegal firearms from communities and ensuring that those responsible for violence against police officers and civilians are brought to justice.
The suspect is expected to appear in court on Wednesday, where the charges against him will be formally addressed.
