Today, 7 January 2025, marks a significant milestone in the history of our beloved Kaizer Chiefs as we celebrate the 55th anniversary of our founding in Phefeni, Orlando West in Soweto.
It invokes a sense of deep satisfaction and immense pride as we reflect the journey that has brought us to this point – an odyssey filled with passion, patience, dedication, and resilience.
When I, along with my fellow founding fathers, established Kaizer Chiefs in 1970 following the formation of Kaizer XI, we envisioned more than just a football club; we sought to create a beacon of hope and unity for our community during the difficult times of apartheid in South Africa.
From those modest beginnings in Soweto, we aspired to build a legacy that would transcend football – a heritage rooted in the rich culture and spirit of our people.
The dream was to provide a platform that would empower and inspire not only players but also our community and supporters, whom we regard as the heart and soul of the club.
Over the years, Kaizer Chiefs has evolved into more than just a team; we have become a family of millions.
Our supporters have remained steadfastly loyal through thick and thin, celebrating our victories and supporting us in challenging times.
To the loyal Amakhosi faithful who have been with us since the beginning, and those who joined our journey later, your unwavering commitment and passion have been instrumental in making Amakhosi the most supported club in South Africa and one of the biggest in Africa.
You are the ones who turn our home and away games into a sea of Gold & Black, creating an atmosphere that few clubs can rival.
This is the reason our mantra for this season is Always Home. This is because we feel at home wherever we play.
As part of our 55th birthday celebration, we invite all our supporters to join us at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening when the team takes on Stellenbosch FC in the Betway Premiership.
It is a fitting occasion to honour our rich history together, and we encourage everyone to don their Gold & Black colours with pride and come together to celebrate this important milestone with us.
As a humble gesture of appreciation to our supporters, we have worked with SMSA to make tickets available for just R30 each for this important match.
This significant saving is a gift to our loyal supporters who are always there for us and wish to share in this momentous celebration.
Your presence in the stands means the world to us, and we look forward to seeing our stadium filled with the Amakhosi spirit, uniting as one force to cheer our team to victory.
As we look back on our journey, we celebrate the remarkable achievements that have defined our institution.
From our early successes in local and continental competitions to our recent achievements, every victory is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our players, coaches, and staff.
We have laid a solid foundation that enables us to continue aiming for greatness, always striving to keep the Amakhosi spirit alive.
The legacy of Kaizer Chiefs is not just measured by the trophies we have won but by the values of teamwork, respect, supporter centricity and community engagement we uphold.
We take pride in our initiatives to uplift and empower the youth by providing them with opportunities to pursue their dreams, both on and off the field.
This commitment to social responsibility is integral to our identity and aligns with our vision of being a club that cares for its people and contributes positively to society.
As we celebrate 55 years, we also acknowledge the challenges we have faced along the way.
Football, like life, is filled with ups and downs, yet it is during those tough times that we have learned the most.
Our ability to adapt, innovate, and overcome obstacles has strengthened our resolve and united us as a club.
Looking forward, we are more determined than ever to continue building a future that honours our past while embracing the potential that lies ahead.
On this momentous occasion, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to every individual who has been part of our journey – past and present.
To our former players, coaches, and staff who laid the groundwork for our success, thank you for your contributions and sacrifices.
To our fans, your loyalty inspires us daily; you remind us of why we do what we do.
Your support is the fuel that drives our ambitions and keeps the flame of Kaizer Chiefs burning bright.
As we move forward into the next phase of our journey, our commitment to excellence continues to drive us forward.
We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that Kaizer Chiefs remains a club that our supporters are proud of; a club that upholds the traditions of our founding fathers and embraces the modern landscape of football.
Together, we shall strive for more victories, more memories, and an even greater legacy.
Here’s to the next 55 years of Amakhosi!
Together, let’s continue to build on our rich history and foster the spirit of unity, determination, and excellence that defines who we are as Kaizer Chiefs.
Yours in football,
Dr. Kaizer Motaung
