Jub Jub Struggling to Find Work Amid Criminal Case, Lawyer Says
Media personality Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye’s lawyer says the criminal case against him is taking a toll on his career and livelihood, with the entertainer struggling to secure work.
Maarohanye appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court today, Monday in connection with an alleged June confrontation with an e-hailing driver in Edenvale.
He faces charges including kidnapping and the unlawful discharge of a firearm. Police allege that Maarohanye confronted the driver, forced him into a vehicle and prevented him from leaving before a firearm was allegedly discharged in his direction. The driver was not injured.
Maarohanye’s advocate, Henry Motsemme, denied the allegations, telling the court that his client “didn’t kidnap anyone” and “didn’t fire anything to anyone”.
Motsemme said the case had also damaged Maarohanye’s reputation and ability to earn a living.
“He can’t get work as he used to. It’s a big problem for him,” Motsemme said.
The matter has been postponed to 17 September for the State to provide the defence with copies of the docket.
Maarohanye remains out on R5,000 bail. He denies the allegations.
