Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni has cited his engagements with President Cyril Ramaphosa and Minister Gwede Mantashe as part of his defence before the Madlanga Commission, arguing that the interactions support his portrayal of himself as a legitimate community leader and civic actor.

Reading from his supplementary statement, Sibanyoni referred to CJC 4-71, which he said documented his engagements with Ramaphosa and Mantashe during electioneering visits to traditional and rural communities.

He also relied on CJC 4-69, which he described as a formal written invitation dated 19 December 2023 from the Mpumalanga House of Traditional and Khoisan Leaders.

Sibanyoni argued that the material supported his description of himself as a community leader, taxi-industry representative and civic actor operating through lawful and recognised structures.

The references to Ramaphosa and Mantashe form part of Sibanyoni’s own defence. The interactions do not, by themselves, establish that either political figure was involved in or aware of any alleged wrongdoing being examined by the Commission.
