OR TAMBO DISTRICT – The Tactical Response Unit members deployed at OR Tambo District arrested suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition this morning between 03h00 and 09h00. Police ensure that Operation Shanela under high density visibility is felt by the criminals when they receive information about men that are in possession of unlicensed firearms in Qumbu. They quickly attended to the information and went to two different houses at Nkonkweni Admistrative area, Mission Location outside Qumbu. On police arrival, they searched the first house and recovered an unlicensed firearm (norinco) and one magazine with ammunition. The 48-year-old male was immediately arrested after he failed to produce the license. On Police investigation, they proceeded to another house in the same area of Nkonkweni Administrative area and arrested a 36-year-old male for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Investigation is underway to determine whether these firearms are not linked to any commission of crime. The duo will appear at Qumbu Magistrate Court soon. Ends
