Greater Tzaneen: Voting in the highly contested Ward 21 under Greater Tzaneen Municipality is progressing slowly, with scorching temperatures seemingly affecting voter turnout.

Mayor Odas Ngobeni is expected to cast his vote in the ward today, which has historically remained an ANC stronghold since the introduction of local government elections.

The IEC has designated two voting sections in an effort to manage the flow of voters and prevent overcrowding.

Ward 21 previously attracted controversy during the national elections, when allegations emerged that ANC members from neighbouring Ward 19 had been transported to the voting station, allegedly contributing to overcrowding and resulting in the station only closing at 23:00.
