The South African Gqom scene is gearing up for a historic milestone as powerhouse artists Goldmax, Dankie Boi, and Blacks Jnr prepare to commemorate the phenomenal Platinum achievement of their 2025 collaborative album, New Wave.
Since its release, the critically acclaimed project has shattered expectations, surpassing a staggering 19 million streams across digital platforms.
This commercial triumph cements New Wave as one of the most successful Gqom albums of the past six years.
Furthermore, it marks a rare and monumental feat in South African music history, becoming only the second Gqom album ever to reach official Platinum status. The album’s dominance is further highlighted by its standout singles, “Shona Phansi” and “Asisho Sonke,” both of which achieved individual Platinum status.
The milestone will be honored at an exclusive, intimate celebration dinner designed to reflect on the remarkable journey behind the project.
The story of New Wave traces back to 2021 with the initial creative synergy between Dankie Boi and Goldmax.
