Media Statement PARKTOWN – On Thursday, 05 December 2024, a multidisciplinary team of law enforcement agencies conducted counterfeit goods operation with the aim of destabilising and destruction of illegal trade of illicit and counterfeit goods. The team comprised of National Counterfeit Unit, Gauteng Counterfeit Unit, Crime Intelligence, JHB Public Order Police, Department of Home Affairs, Brand Protectors, City Deep Border Police, Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens, Commercial Crime, BCI Security and SAPHRA. The operation was conducted in Joburg Mall. The police seized a total of 20895 Illicit and counterfeit goods including counterfeit consumables, illicit pharmaceutical products and poison products valued at approximately R 1700 600-00 . This operation demonstrates the police’s commitment to safeguarding the community from counterfeit goods and protecting consumers from substandard products.
