DURBAN – The Madadeni High Court has sentenced hitman Sinqobile ‘Sgora’ Zondi (23), together with his accomplices Qondeni Mhlongo (50), Sandile Manqele (35) and Ritta Mthembu (67) to a combined four terms of life sentences plus 65 years in jail after they were convicted for the murders of Sipho Sibisi and Londiwe Shongwe who were 38 and 25 years old at the time of their deaths. The court sentenced Zondi to two life imprisonment for the murders plus 15 years for unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition. Mhlongo and Manqele were both sentenced to two life imprisonment for murders plus 10 years each for conspiracy to commit murder while Mthembu was sentenced to spend 30 years behind bars. On 6 April 2022, Sibisi who was dating Manqele was found with multiple stab wounds at Umhambuma area and murder case was duly opened for investigation. Londiwe was fatally shot by the then unknown suspects at her home at Nsunduzane Reserve, Macambini on 27 December 2022. An intelligence operation was conducted on 10 January 2023 by Nyoni detectives which resulted in the arrest of Zondi who was found in possession of a pistol with nine rounds of ammunition. He took the police to Doringkop area in Newark where the three women were arrested. Investigation revealed that the accused killed the victims in order to claim insurance money.
The accused made several court appearances until they were found guilty and sentenced by the court on Thursday, 13 February 2025.
