Media Statement KIMBERLEY – The multi-disciplinary teams of operation Vala Umgodi in Namakwa district, comprising of SANDF and SAPS has arrested four for alleged illegal hunting on Saturday 14 September 2024. The team was responding to information, about illegal mining activities taking place at a game farm, when they noticed a green Mitsubishi Colt bakkie that suddenly sped off when the occupants saw the police approaching. Members of the Tactical Response Team gave chase and the vehicle was brought to a standstill with four occupants. Upon searching the vehicle, a carcass of an Impala, as well as three hunting rifles were found and further investigation revealed that the four suspects did not have any hunting permit, and that the farm owner had no knowledge of people hunting on his farm. The carcass as well as the hunting rifles were confiscated, and four suspects aged between 53 and 23, were arrested for Trespassing and illegal hunting. They are expected to appear in the Port Nolloth Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 16 September 2024. Ends
