Da Cruz sticks with error-prone Petersen after heart-to-heart talk
On top of worrying injuries that have hit Kaizer Chiefs, one thing that should be keeping coach Fernando Da Cruz up at night is the goalkeeping mistakes.
Despite the errors made by club captain and first-choice goalkeeper Brandon Petersen, Da Cruz insists he still has faith in him.
Speaking during a media engagement at the Chiefs Village in Naturena on Wednesday, Da Cruz defended Petersen.
The Frenchman acknowledged that Petersen also made mistakes last season.
However, he believes the goalkeeper’s overall contribution deserves recognition.
Da Cruz also revealed that he spoke to Petersen about his recent performances this past weekend.
“Petersen also made mistakes last season, but he also had a good campaign,” said Da Cruz.
“He secured a lot of points for his team. He is our captain and we trust him.
“I also spoke to him this past weekend about this.”
Petersen has come under scrutiny after costly errors against Richards Bay, Mamelodi Sundowns and Lamontville Golden Arrows.
Despite those setbacks, Da Cruz appears unwilling to make a change between the posts.
