Media Statement EASTERN CAPE – The Minister of Police, Honorable Senzo Mchunu (MP) together with the National Commissioner, General Fanie Masemola led the delegation of dignitaries, who are visiting the Eastern Cape to gauge the progress on Festive Season Operations. Ten (10) motor bikes were also handed over in order to enhance police visibility along the beaches in preparation for the public holiday on the 1st of January 2025 General Fanie Masemola said, “This visit forms part of the decision to ensure all within our borders are and feel safe and their properties are protected during this festive season. We appreciate our men and women in blue, who did not take vacation leave but will be holding the fort during this period while other people will gather to celebrate,” concluded General Masemola Minister of Police, honorable Mr Mchunu during his keynote address, he said, “It is encouraging that since the start of the Festive Season operations in October, in the Eastern Cape alone, 337 unlicensed liquor premises have been shut down by police. A total of 13 679 suspects have been arrested for various crimes ranging from murder, rape and assault. Of those arrested, 485 were nabbed for murder in this province alone.” Minister Mchunu added that a total of 351 firearms were seized, including more than 4 700 rounds of ammunition. The day ended with the minister and his entourage conducting walkabouts in the shopping malls and taxi ranks. They also visited roadblocks that were manned in Gqeberha and surrounding areas. Ends
