DAME HELEN MIRREN AND HER BARBIE
Mattel, the famous toymaker, chose Dame Helen for her iconic roles in The Queen and Prime Suspect. She is now a UK Barbie role model at 78.
The news has left the dame “absolutely blown away” according to Sky News.
Dame Helen boasts impressive achievements – a Dame of the British Empire, an Oscar holder, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
DAME HELEN MIRREN’S CANNES INSPIRATION
She expressed her delight at the new addition to her list of accomplishments.
Her one-of-a-kind Barbie doll replicates the stunning ensemble she wore at Cannes last year.
She wore a striking cornflower blue gown by Del Core, adorned with Bulgari jewelry. Notably, her blue hair captured the essence of her fearless fashion sense.
“I love that the Barbie doll is wearing one of my favorite-ever red carpet looks,” Dame Helen exclaimed.
DAME HELEN MIRREN EMBRACES THE HONOUR
“It was the first time I’d ever had blue hair, and it felt so exciting.
I like to embrace theatrical fashion and the joy that having fun with fashion can bring, and I think that this joy should be ageless.”
But Dame Helen is not the only luminary to receive this distinct honor.
To celebrate Barbie’s 65th anniversary, we have recognized seven other influential women for shaping the future with their inspiring stories.
Each commemorated with a bespoke doll in their likeness.
THESE BARBIES BREAK BOUNDARIES
The roster features Australian pop sensation Kylie Minogue, Canadian singer Shania Twain, and German comedian and activist Enissa Amani. It also includes Mexican director and producer Lila Aviles, and American artist and producer Viola Davis.
Japanese model Nicole Fujita and Maira Gomez, a content creator from the Tatuyo Amazonas, are also part of this list.
Krista Berger, Senior Vice President, and Global Head of Barbie and Dolls highlighted the larger impact of Barbie beyond the dolls themselves.
INSPIRATIONAL TALES
“Barbie’s story has never been just about her. It’s about the countless young girls she’s inspired.
(It’s also about) the millions of stories she helped them imagine along the way.”
This diverse lineup follows in the footsteps of previous Barbie role models, including British Olympic skateboard medallist Sky Brown, COVID-19 vaccine developer Professor Sarah Gilbert, and sprinter Dina Asher-Smith.
