Chiefs Close In on Elias Mokwana: Winger Set for Naturena Second Chance

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly on the verge of a major transfer coup, and this time they are not letting Elias Mokwana slip away.

SABC Sport reports that Amakhosi are finalising the details to sign the free agent this week after agreeing personal terms with him on Monday. The only major hurdle left is a medical, and the finer points of the deal still need to be concluded.

Chiefs were interested in the 27-year-old two years ago, but Mokwana chose Tunisia instead. He left Sekhukhune United for Esperance de Tunis in August 2024 in a deal reportedly worth around R7 million.

Now, with no transfer fee required, Chiefs can finally get their man. Mokwana became a free agent in September after parting ways with Esperance, shortly after returning from a loan spell at Saudi Pro League side Al-Hazem.

A proposed move to Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club reportedly looked close, but registration issues killed it.

With his options narrowing, the winger returned to his home province of Mpumalanga to weigh his next move. That was when Chiefs came knocking.

Fernando Da Cruz has been looking to strengthen his attack, and Mokwana’s pace, direct running and international experience could add a different dimension to a front line that has struggled for consistency.

For a player who once turned Naturena down, it is a second chance. For Chiefs, it could be the signing that makes the wait worthwhile.
