Capricorn FM Star Tumelo Dee Nkomo Leaves Limpopo Airwaves for Major Move to Kaya 959
POLOKWANE | One of Limpopo’s most recognisable radio voices is preparing to sign off from the province’s airwaves, marking the end of an era for thousands of loyal listeners.
Capricorn FM has officially announced the departure of popular presenter and DJ Tumelo Dee Nkomo, who is set to begin a new chapter of his broadcasting career at Johannesburg-based commercial radio station Kaya 959.
The announcement, made on Wednesday, has sparked an outpouring of appreciation from listeners who have followed Nkomo’s journey over the past decade.
For many, his voice became a familiar soundtrack to daily life through flagship shows such as Urban Hot 40 and Capricorn Lounge. Over the years, he built a reputation for energetic presenting, a deep connection with audiences, and an unmistakable passion for radio.
Nkomo’s departure closes a significant chapter in Capricorn FM’s history. During his 10-year tenure, he became one of the station’s most recognisable personalities, helping shape its entertainment offering while connecting with audiences across Limpopo and beyond.
In a statement, Capricorn FM Station Director James Shikwambana paid tribute to Nkomo’s contribution to the station.
“We are deeply grateful for his commitment, talent and the mark he made on Limpopo’s Hottest Frequency. Nkomo has grown with the station, consistently rising to every challenge with dedication, tenacity and strong enthusiasm, leaving a lasting impact on both listeners and colleagues,” said Shikwambana.
Nkomo’s broadcasting journey began at Greater Lebowakgomo Community Radio, where he first developed his skills behind the microphone. He later spent a brief period at Energy FM SA before making the move to Capricorn FM in 2016.
What followed was a decade of growth, audience engagement and memorable on-air moments that cemented his place among Limpopo’s leading radio personalities.
Now, with a move to Kaya 959 on the horizon, Nkomo is set to take his talent to a national audience. The transition represents a major career milestone and places him on one of South Africa’s most prominent commercial radio platforms.
While Capricorn FM listeners prepare to say goodbye, many will be watching closely to see how the celebrated broadcaster writes the next chapter of his radio story.
Nkomo is expected to officially join Kaya 959 in July 2026.
