Broadcaster Backlash: MK Party and ActionSA Give Moja Love Until October 15 to Air Censored Four-Hour Debate
A massive political row is brewing between South African political parties and popular television channel Moja Love over a recorded political debate that has allegedly been suppressed due to an explosive backstage confrontation.
The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party and ActionSA have officially joined forces to issue an ultimatum to the broadcaster, demanding the full, unedited release of the two-part special by 15 October 2026.
The controversy dates back to 31 August 2026, when the channel filmed a high-stakes political debate in Orlando East, Soweto, hosted by prominent television personality Nimrod Nkosi.
The panel featured a heavy-hitting lineup, including Ayanda Allie (ActionSA), Helen Zille (Democratic Alliance), Mlungisi Mabaso (Inkatha Freedom Party), Andile Chalwe (MK Party), and Solly Mkhize (Patirical Alliance).
According to a joint media statement released by the parties, the four-hour recording session turned chaotic as tensions flared between the politicians and the live audience.
In a moment of extreme frustration, DA Federal Chairperson Helen Zille allegedly directed profane language at the MK Party’s Andile Chalwe.
Allie reportedly witnessed the clash, and Zille later explicitly admitted to the host that she used vulgar language in retaliation to Chalwe’s remarks.
While Moja Love had originally committed to broadcasting the two-part series in September 2026, the episodes have yet to be scheduled or flighted.
The broadcaster has allegedly defended its decision by claiming it did not obtain the necessary signed release forms from the high-profile participants.
However, the political organizations have fiercely rejected this narrative, maintaining that all clearance forms were fully executed before leaving the studio.
The MK Party and ActionSA are now demanding that the channel honor its original agreement.
Critically, they insist that the broadcast must include the unedited profane exchange and the subsequent explanation given on stage.
The political parties have highlighted that the production came at a severe financial cost to their organizations.
At the specific request of Moja Love, the parties personally funded transport and catering arrangements for hundreds of supporters to act as the studio audience.
Furthermore, the IFP’s Mlungisi Mabaso was forced to pay out-of-pocket to reschedule a flight he missed due to prolonged filming delays.
With the October 15 deadline drawing near, pressure is mounting on Moja Love to clear up the confusion and clarify whether they will air the heavily anticipated political showdown or face potential legal or institutional escalation from the aggrieved parties.
Moja Love has not responded to the demand of both MK Party and ActionSA.
