BBM Palace Issues Public Apology Over 'Fake Alcohol' Outcry, Blames Major Retailer

Luxury entertainment venue BBM Palace has issued a public apology following a wave of social media backlash and complaints from patrons who alleged they were served counterfeit alcohol during a high-profile event over the weekend.

The allegations surfaced immediately following “Bra Mjava’s 40th Milestone” celebration hosted at the venue on Saturday, 31 October 2026.

Patrons took to various platforms to claim that the premium liquor sold at the event tasted fraudulent and caused unusual physical side effects.

In an official statement released by BBM Palace Management, the venue strongly denied knowingly distributing illicit beverages, asserting that they strictly acquire their inventory from prominent, licensed suppliers.

To clear their name, the establishment publicly shared their official tax invoices and receipts, stamped by Makro Crown Mines, detailing bulk purchases of high-end brands including Hennessy VS Cognac, Glenfiddich 12-Year-Old Single Malt, Jameson Select Reserve, and Martell VS Cognac.

Management highlighted that South Africa is currently grappling with a severe counterfeit goods epidemic, which has pushed hospitality brands to rely entirely on major wholesalers for quality assurance.

“With this in mind, we did not expect that Makro would also be compromised,” the management statement read. “We are seeking valid explanations as to why we were supposedly sold counterfeit alcohol… we will be seeking relevant explanations that will be satisfactory to our brand and our clients.”

The venue apologized for the distress caused to its patrons, expressing deep concern that the incident could tarnish their reputation for hosting elite, well-controlled events.

Management promised to reassess its supply chain infrastructure and consider alternative food and beverage suppliers moving forward to ensure strict quality control.
