Cardoso rewards Van Wyk with Sundowns start after Arrows heroics
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has rewarded Anthonio Van Wyk for his impressive cameo against Golden Arrows.
The attacking midfielder has been handed a starting place against Betway Premiership new boys Milford FC on Wednesday night.
Sundowns face Milford in an important league encounter at Loftus Stadium – the game starts at 7.30 pm.
Van Wyk joined the Brazilians in July after leaving SV Ried in Austria. He made his Sundowns debut from the bench against Golden Arrows on Sunday.
The 24-year-old made an immediate impact after coming on as a second-half substitute.
Van Wyk produced a superb finish to score Sundowns’ third goal in their 3-2 MTN8 second-leg semi-final victory.
His performance appears to have caught Cardoso’s attention. The Portuguese coach has now included him in the starting XI for the Milford clash.
Sundowns will be desperate for three points as they chase early leaders Orlando Pirates.
The Buccaneers opened a three-point advantage after destroying Kruger United 4-0 on Tuesday. Cardoso will hope Van Wyk can provide another attacking spark.
Sundowns XI: Williams, Mdunyelwa, Modiba, Khoza, Kekana, Mokoena, B. Aubaas, Allende, Mathews, Van Wyk, Rayners.
On the bench: Goss, Mvala, Morena, Basadien, Mokoena, Ndlovu, Zwane, Mailula, Leon.
