AKA MURDER TRIAL RESUMES AT DURBAN HIGH COURT
Anticipation filled the air outside the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Durban this morning as members of the public gathered for the resumption of the high-profile murder trial involving the killing of South African rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes.
The case of S v Mkhwanazi and Six Others resumed following a week-long adjournment, with proceedings focusing on testimony from a State witness who took the stand to recount events surrounding the fatal shooting outside Wish Restaurant on Florida Road on 10 February 2023.
During the proceedings, the witness provided a detailed account of the sequence of events on the day of the shooting, including descriptions of the two gunmen who allegedly fled the scene after the incident.
In a measure aimed at protecting the witness, the court ordered that the witness’s face be concealed and that no names or addresses be mentioned during the testimony.
The trial is being presided over by Judge Nomfundo Sipunzi. The accused face charges including two counts of murder, five counts of attempted murder, conspiracy and illegal possession of firearms.
The proceedings are scheduled to resume tomorrow at the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Durban, as the court continues to hear evidence in the case.
The murder of AKA, who was shot and killed alongside his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, sent shockwaves through South Africa’s entertainment industry and beyond. The trial remains a closely followed legal proceeding as the State presents its evidence against the accused.
