Ouaddou raves about ‘fantastic’ Mokobodi as Pirates cruise past Gallants
Thapelo Mokobodi didn’t just play well for Orlando Pirates. He stole the show.
The 23-year-old, signed from Stellenbosch this window, walked off Royal Bafokeng Stadium with Man of the Match after Orlando Pirates’ 2-0 win over Marumo Gallants.
And coach Abdeslam Ouaddou could barely contain himself.
“Even though I don’t like to speak about individuals because it’s a collective sport.
“But since he came, this boy has been just fantastic,” Ouaddou said after the game.
“I know him from Marumo. He has a lot of activity in the middle, he’s very clever. He can give assists, he can score and he can make play his teammates.”
Mokobodi did exactly that. He created the second goal with the cross Sibisi headed in. He ran the midfield. He looked like he’d been at Pirates for years, not weeks.
Ouaddou didn’t stop there. Simphiwe Selepe got his flowers too.
“I was really happy about Selepe as well today. He managed to keep us balanced and to be the link between the defence and the attack. He was really, really top in the middle.”
Two midfielders. One dominant performance. Zero goals conceded. Pirates keep winning. And their new engine room is already humming.
