Tragic Misassumption Leads to Brutal Murder of Witbank Man Vusimuzi Radebe
The Radebe and Mathobela families have been plunged into deep mourning following the horrific and unprovoked murder of their beloved 34-year-old son, Vusimuzi “Vusi” Radebe.
Vusi was brutally beaten to death in a fatal case of mistaken identity and dangerous assumptions while simply walking home to Lynville from his grandmother’s house in Kwaguqa.
The tragedy unfolded on the evening of Saturday, 19 September 2026.
Vusi, described by his family as a quiet, reserved individual who rarely spoke much, was making his usual journey between the neighboring townships.
According to an official family statement released on September 21, 2026, Vusi was intercepted along his route by individuals who began questioning him about his point of origin and where he resided.
Vusi truthfully answered that he was currently coming from his grandmother’s home in Kwaguqa and mentioned that his family had previously lived in Kempton Park.
Unbeknownst to Vusi, local tensions and a recent wave of violence involving individuals associated with Kempton Park had put the community on edge.
Rather than validating his background or confirming the truth, the group acted on immediate, volatile assumptions. Vusi was subjected to a severe vigilante assault, dying from his injuries directly on the scene.
Vusi’s parents, Sipho and Perfidia Radebe, had only recently returned to their roots in Lynville, Witbank, about a month ago following their retirement.
The family had originally moved from the area to Kempton Park in the early 1990s.
“His life should have never ended because of an assumption,” the family shared in a heartbroken public address. “He was a human being — someone’s son, grandson, and loved one.”
Devastated and seeking answers, the Radebe and Mathobela families are urgently appealing to members of the community, eyewitnesses, or anyone who might have seen Vusi travelling from Kwaguqa toward Lynville on Saturday night to come forward with information.
