Da Cruz confirms Maboe injury, Bafana call-up in doubt for Chiefs star
Lebohang Maboe is Kaizer Chiefs’ only Bafana Bafana player right now, but he might not stay that way.
Fernando Da Cruz confirmed the midfielder had to come off injured during Chiefs’ 0-0 grind against Golden Arrows — the same game where Maboe missed a first-half penalty.
“We changed position for Maboe, unfortunately his injury arrived a bit early in the second half,” Da Cruz said after the game at Mbombela Stadium.
That substitution left Chiefs unbalanced in midfield. The rest of the changes were all about chasing a winner. They hit the post.
They created chances. They scored nothing. Da Cruz is still selling hope.
“We have a lack of maturity in our frontline. Young players with a lot of quality but they lack maturity.
“But we are on a good way. We have to continue this way and will score, I’m 100% sure,” he added.
He even called a 0-0 “a very good game.” Chiefs fans have heard this before.
Maboe’s fitness now sits on top of the usual questions: when do the young attackers actually put the ball in the net?
And will Maboe make Pitso Mosimane team, or will the Bafama coach be forced to look at someone else?
