Second-half double sinks Durban as Pirates tighten grip on second
Orlando Pirates beat Durban City 2-0 in the Betway Premiership at Orlando Stadium on Thursday night, with second-half goals from Lebone Seema and Tshepang Moremi sealing a comfortable home win.
The first half finished 0-0. Pirates controlled possession and created the better chances, but Durban City stayed organised and threatened on the break.
Sipho Chaine saved a low drive from Gaston Sirino, while Nkosinathi Sibisi headed wide from a corner. Durban City picked up several yellow cards as they tried to disrupt Pirates’ rhythm.
Pirates broke the deadlock in the 58th minute. Kabelo Kgosietsile provided the assist for Seema, who finished to make it 1-0. Moremi added the second in the 69th minute, assisted by Simphiwe Masilela, to put the result beyond doubt.
Durban City made changes, including Samkelo Maseko for Sirino, but could not find a way back. Pirates managed the game well after going two goals up and saw it out for a fourth league win of the season.
The result leaves Pirates second in the table on 16 points from six games, still with games in hand on leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
Durban City remain mid-table after a disciplined but limited display following their recent CAF Confederation Cup progress.
