Soccer Fab: Women Kick for a Cause
JOHANNESBURG – Model, entrepreneur and philanthropist Brown Mbombo will bring 28 women together on 26 September for the 5-A-Side Ladies Soccer Tournament at the Mall of Africa Level 5 Rooftop Soccer Park.
Hosted with the KwaMbombo Foundation, Happy Kidz and Frdm, the tournament will feature four teams – Blue, Green, Red and Yellow – competing for more than a trophy.
Participants and supporters are encouraged to donate toiletries and sanitary towels instead of paying traditional entry fees. The winning team will choose the charity, community and province that receive the donations.
Mbombo said the event grew from a fun day with friends into a platform for giving back.
“Soccer Fab actually started as a Brown Fun Day,” she said. “I thought, why not use the opportunity to help disadvantaged children at the same time?”
The initiative is personal for Mbombo, who grew up with her sister, Ble, in a single-parent home and saw the challenges families face in providing basic necessities.
Beyond football, the tournament aims to create a safe space where women can connect, have fun and honour those lost to gender-based violence.
“We can laugh, compete, build friendships and have the best time while still doing something meaningful,” Mbombo said
