Mr JazziQ Teams Up with Amapiano & Bujwa Talents for Upcoming Street-Culture Anthem “Katalia”
South African multiplatinum-selling artist and Amapiano heavyweight Mr JazziQ is set to drop a groundbreaking new single titled “Katalia”.
Released through ONErpm, the track features an elite collaborative lineup including Thesiix, Don Deeya, Magwe, and Shazz RSA.
The upcoming release seamlessly fuses the evolving sounds of electronic music with South Africa’s vibrant street culture and its iconic stance car movement.
“Katalia” introduces a clever, dual-layered concept. On one hand, the track centers on a playful narrative about a widely loved, highly recognizable woman in the streets named Katalia.
On the other hand, it translates directly into the lexicon of South African stance culture—where a uniquely modified, standout car is affectionately dubbed a “Katalia.”
“The idea started with this girl who is known and loved in the streets, and then we connected that idea to the stance car culture,” explains Mr JazziQ. “When someone posts their car, they can say, ‘here’s my Katalia,’ so the name becomes bigger than just the song.”
Breaking away from the standard Amapiano formula, “Katalia” places Bujwa—an Amapiano subgenre pioneered by Thesiix—at its rhythmic core.
The song’s inception boasts an unexpected global link.
Producer Don Deeya was inspired by the timeless melody of Los Del Rio’s “Macarena” after hearing it following Spain’s recent World Cup victory.
He envisioned reframing that infectious, globally recognized melodic hook through a distinctly South African lens.
The track came together organically in the studio; once Don Deeya laid down the hook, Magwe jumped on the beat, and Shazz RSA later joined to weave in a softer, contrasting vocal texture.
“Katalia” marks an extraordinary chapter of creative “firsts” for everyone involvedMr JazziQ’s very first Bujwa release, Thesiix’s first Bujwa project featuring a female vocalist, Don Deeya’s first released record featuring a female artist and Shazz RSA’s official debut performance within the Bujwa subgenre.
For Mr JazziQ, a pivotal architect of the genre since his early days with JazziDisciples, this single is a natural extension of his entrepreneurial lifestyle brand, which includes major nightlife and community hubs like Vibez in Main and Stance Social.
The single will directly tie into the real world on 7 November 2026, when the next edition of Mr JazziQ’s Stance Social car and lifestyle event takes over Johannesburg.
“Katalia” stands as a powerful testament to Amapiano’s unmatched ability to absorb global influences, reshape them, and feed them back to the streets as pure cultural currency.
