Hunt salivating over Stellenbosch’s new foreign trio
Gavin Hunt is done waiting. Stellenbosch FC’s new signings are still under wraps, but the coach has already named the three foreigners he wants unleashed in the Betway Premiership soon.
Ghanaian goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi is cleared. The hold-up is work permits for Nigerians Arigo Obus Godspower and Lateef Kazeem Adeyanju. Hunt has already split their roles.
“The one’s obviously a left winger; he’s a left-footed player, Kazeem. He’s really done well at training, and obviously the other guy, Arigo, is a striker.”
That is the plan: rotate Arigo with Bradley, give Hunt a runner who can play on the last line, win headers, and finish the chances he piled up in pre-season but could not use.
“He’ll give us options… Good in the air, he runs, he’s scored a lot of goals in pre-season, but obviously hasn’t been able to use him,” added Hunt. “So that’s going to be another problem to try and integrate him a little bit more. It’s just work permits now.”
Hunt is not talking squad depth. He is talking first XI players.
“If you look at our squad, there’s certainly four, five that will start in our team that are not playing. And it’s been unfortunate,” he explains.
“It’s just one of those things. Mosa Lebusa, Bafana Mthethwa, Kazeem, and Arigo, they will start the four, five of them in our team. But obviously, they haven’t been available for various reasons, and that’s about it.”
