Missing Kempton Park Runner Identified As Family Confirms Body At Germiston Mortuary
The family of 38-year-old runner Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo has positively identified her body at the Germiston mortuary today, Monday.
Moselakgomo went missing on Wednesday, 9 September, after leaving her Rhodesfield home for an afternoon run. Her eight-year-old daughter raised the alarm when she failed to return home.
Her body was discovered in Rhodesfield on Saturday. The family was initially unable to identify her because of the extent of her facial injuries. Police have since confirmed that the body was that of Moselakgomo.
Her death comes amid a wider investigation into the deaths of women in and around Kempton Park. Police have established a multidisciplinary task team after identifying concerning similarities between several cases, but have stressed that they have not confirmed that the deaths are linked or that a serial killer is responsible.
A fifth woman’s body was also discovered in Olifantsfontein on Monday, while Kempton Park residents and runners gathered outside the local police station to demand greater safety for women.
Police have urged women in the area to exercise caution, particularly when walking or running alone, and have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
