Two arrested after Thabong knife robbery, third suspect still sought
Two men, aged 30 and 32, have been arrested in connection with an alleged knife-point robbery in Thabong.
The arrests were made by members of the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit during crime-prevention operations after police received information about the suspects.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the robbery was reported on Saturday, 5 September, after a man was allegedly confronted by three men while walking home.
Two of the suspects were allegedly armed with knives and attempted to stab the complainant before taking his belongings. A case of robbery with a weapon other than a firearm was opened.
On Sunday, 13 September, police traced and arrested the first suspect. Further investigations led officers to the second suspect in Oppenheimer Park, Thabong knife robbery .
During the arrests, police recovered a backpack, laptop charger, hat and adapter plug. The complainant later identified the items as those allegedly stolen during the robbery.
Two large knives, believed to have been used during the attack, were also seized.
A third alleged suspect remains at large.
The two arrested men are expected to appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court soon. Their names have not been released.
