Gagash’s recruit a close friend as his replacement at Seventeen Lifestyle in Sunnyside
POLOKWANE: Tshwane Metro Police Department officer Constable Peter “Gagash” Nonyane’s close ties to the entertainment industry have come under scrutiny following revelations about his income and business interests during his unsuccessful bail application.
Nonyane was reportedly replaced as an promoter by his close friend, Amukelani “Chavi C” Chavalala.
Chavalala informed his followers of the development on Friday.
“New clothes, new responsibility and the same focus,” Chavalala wrote on his social media page.
In his supplementary affidavit, Nonyane told the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court that he earned approximately R80 000 a week from entertainment-related activities.
Nonyane, 36, said his additional income was generated through work as an MC, artist bookings and his involvement in a Pretoria lifestyle nightclub.
According to his affidavit, approximately R80 000 was deposited into his bank account each week from the nightclub and entertainment bookings.
He told the court that the money was used to pay artists and meet his financial obligations, including instalments on his Mercedes-Benz V300.
The disclosure has drawn attention to Nonyane’s social and entertainment network, particularly his links to entertainers and event personalities.
One of those known to be close to Nonyane is Chavalala, popularly known as Chavi C, from Malamulele.
Chavi C served as the master of ceremonies at Nonyane’s traditional wedding to attorney Charlotte Tibana at Mariveni village in 2024.
Chavi C is known in the Malamulele entertainment industry as an MC and entertainment personality.
His name has been associated with events, comedy and other entertainment activities
The relationship between the two men predates the current criminal case, with Chavi C having played a prominent role at one of the most significant events in Nonyane’s personal life.
THE 43-COUNT CASE
Nonyane and Tibana face 43 charges arising from allegations that money was unlawfully taken from deceased estate accounts.
The State alleges that more than R4 million was diverted from estate accounts involving several families. The matter initially involved fewer charges, but additional counts were added as the investigation progressed.
The charges include fraud, theft and money laundering. The State alleges that some of the money was used for personal benefit, including the purchase of luxury vehicles and other assets.
One of the latest allegations involves approximately R1.029 million that was allegedly transferred from a deceased estate account to an account registered in another person’s name.
The State also questioned Nonyane’s disclosure of his entertainment income, arguing during the bail proceedings that he had initially failed to provide a full account of his additional earnings.
Prosecutor Advocate Martin Molokwane argued that the late disclosure raised questions about Nonyane’s credibility.
Nonyane maintained in his supplementary affidavit that the income generated through his entertainment activities and bookings was legitimate.
The court denied bail to Nonyane and Tibana on 4 September 2026. The State opposed their release, arguing, among other things, that the accused knew some of the witnesses and could potentially interfere with the investigation.
The case has renewed scrutiny of the lifestyle, business interests and entertainment networks associated with the accused.
While Nonyane’s entertainment connections formed part of the bail proceedings, the allegations against him remain before the courts.
