Marumo Gallants sack Phuti Mohafe with immediate effect

Marumo Gallants have parted ways with head coach Phuti Mohafe and assistant coach Musa Bilankulu, the club confirmed on Wednesday.

The decision takes effect immediately, ending Mohafe’s short spell in charge after he was appointed in June from Polokwane City.

“Marumo Gallants confirms that the club has parted ways with coach Phuti Mohafe and assistant coach Musa Bilankulu, with immediate effect,” the club said in a statement.

“The club will not be commenting further on the circumstances surrounding the decision or engaging on the merits of the matter.”

Second assistant Trevor Mathiane has been placed in charge on an interim basis while Gallants search for a permanent replacement.

“In the interim, second assistant coach Trevor Mathiane will assume responsibility as interim head coach, while the club continues its search for a new head coach,” the statement read.

“Marumo Gallants remains focused on ensuring continuity within the team and maintaining its preparations and commitments for the remainder of the season.”

The coaching change comes as Gallants also reshaped their squad. The club confirmed the arrival of Daniel Msendami and Abdoulaye Mariko on loan from Orlando Pirates.

This was as winger Bheki Mabuza completed a permanent move to the Buccaneers.

“Meanwhile, the club confirms that it has secured the services of Daniel Msendami and Abdoulaye Mariko on loan from Orlando Pirates, following the departure of Bheki Mabuza, who has joined Orlando Pirates.”

Gallants thanked supporters, partners and stakeholders and said further updates would follow when appropriate.
