Maskandi Star Khuzani Mpungose Honoured with Nelson Mandela Leadership Award in Oxford

Award-winning Maskandi musician Khuzani “Idlamlenze” Mpungose was officially recognized as a Cultural Icon in Maskandi Music at the prestigious Nelson Mandela Leadership Awards & Diplomatic Summit 2026.
The high-profile event, hosted at the historic University of Oxford, brought together global changemakers from over 30 nations.
The award celebrates visionary leaders, creators, and innovators who make a lasting impact within their communities and countries.
The Lord Mayor of Oxford presented the coveted award to Khuzani before an international audience of diplomats, prominent leaders, and distinguished global guests.
The moment marked a major victory for traditional South African music, bringing global attention to the rich heritage of Maskandi and Zulu culture.
Reflecting on the achievement, an emotional Khuzani shared the deep significance of the moment:
